The New York Giants have won the coveted American Super Bowl title after they beat the New England Patriots 21-17, becoming the champions for the second time in four years.

Quarterback Eli Manning led his team to victory in Sunday’s clash, ending the Patriots' 10-game winning streak.

The Giants, who trailed 10-9 at the half, and 17-9 in the third quarter, clawed back with two field goals by Lawrence Tynes before mounting an 88-yard drive to thwart the Patriots for the second time in four years.

The thrilling game-winning drive was launched on the very first play from the 12-yard line, when Manning lofted a pass down the left sideline that was brilliantly corralled by Mario Manningham, tip-toeing inside the sideline for a 38-yard gain.

Manning hit Manningham again and then found Hakeem Nicks for a key first down to keep the drive alive before Bradshaw darted through the middle for the go-ahead score.

The Giants quarterback was rewarded for his efforts, winning his second Super Bowl Most Valuable Player award.

He had 30 completions from 40 throws for 296 yards, with one touchdown pass and zero interceptions.

The contest was a rematch of the 2008 NFL championship, when Manning led New York past New England to ruin the Patriots' bid for a perfect season.

Manning became the first quarterback to open a Super Bowl with nine consecutive completions. Later, New England's Tom Brady put together a run of 16 completions in a row, breaking another Super Bowl mark.

But in the end, it was Manning who directed the nine-play, 88-yard drive that put New York ahead and brought home the title.
